Duke of Edinburgh Award in full swing!
The D of E Award is in full swing for our Years 9, 10 and 11 who have been working towards their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award. The award requires pupils to take part in volunteering, a physical activity, and a skill, each for three months.
For the physical activity the pupils have taken part in archery sessions, where they have learned to shoot safely and how to improve their score.
For the skill section the pupils have been learning first aid skills through modules from St John Ambulance. This has included topics ranging from heat exhaustion, to making a 999 call to the recovery position.
For the volunteering sections pupils have been helping the younger classes in their afternoon enrichment sessions.
During the summer term our pupils will tackle the expedition section which involves two days and one night spent in the local countryside. The pupils will need to work together in teams to navigate, set up camp and cook their own food. They are very excited about going away and putting their skills into practice, so we look forward to keeping you updated with news from this!
